Market 10/16: AI-Debt Selloff and $110 Brent Sink the Nasdaq, SPX Logs Its Worst Week Since June
The AI-debt selloff widened on Friday: CoreWeave fell 11.91% (about −25% in five sessions), SOX dropped 3.83% for an eighth straight loss and NDX lost 2.50%, while Brent settled +3.7% at $109.86 after touching $110. SPX fell 1.09% to 7,659.44 and logged its worst week since June (−1.95%; Nasdaq −4.48%), VIX jumped 21% to 19.99, and a flat 10Y (5.098%) offered no cushion, closing the week RISK-OFF.
Market 10/15: Hot PPI, Bonds Rally, Rotation Out of AI Snaps SPX's 3-Day Slide
Hot September PPI (+1.3% m/m, core +0.7% vs +0.3% expected) did not break the tape: the 10Y fell 10.1 bp to 5.089%, October hike odds eased to ~29%, and a broad rotation out of AI lifted the Dow +1.08%, RUT +1.38% and equal-weight RSP +1.37%, so SPX (+0.33%) snapped a three-day losing streak. NDX was flat and SOX fell a seventh straight day despite TSMC's beat-and-raise, leaving the regime at TRANSITION into Warsh tonight and Friday OpEx.
Market 10/14: Hot CPI, AI Infrastructure Unwinds, SOX Down a 6th Straight Day
Hot September CPI (core +0.3% m/m vs +0.2% expected) sent October hike odds to 53.7% at midday and triggered an AI-infrastructure selloff: SPX −1.11%, NDX −2.02%, SOX down a sixth straight day. Yields fully reversed the CPI spike (10Y closed at 5.190%), but growth equities did not follow, keeping the market RISK-OFF into TSMC, PPI and retail sales.
